How to Heat Outdoor Spaces
Just because it is winter does not mean you have to entertain indoors only. You have a beautiful backyard but the only thing keeping your guest away from it is the cold. This alone emphasizes the importance of investing in quality outdoor heating infrastructure.
So, what are the different methods you can use to effectively warm up your outdoor spaces?
Outdoor Fireplaces
A fireplace can be the centrepiece of your outdoor living space and give it a sense of permanence. There are several options in this category. For instance, you could opt to build a fireplace from scratch or buy a readymade unit. Both are equally effective, but the latter is more convenient because it doesn’t require additional installations.
Outdoor heaters can either run on wood or gas. If you prefer a natural feel, wood fired heaters are your best bet. However, you will have to contend with ashes, smoke and continually buying wood. Gas heaters, on other hand, require less maintenance and can have the same look and feel.
Electric Heaters
Electric heaters are undoubtedly the best option for outdoor heating. Their main advantage over other heaters is their efficiency, in that you can focus the heat they generate at a particular target. Modern heaters have sensors that automatically switch them on when certain pre-set conditions are met. For instance, you could configure the device such that it turns on when the space is cold and off when a certain temperature is attained.
Another benefit of electric heaters is their eco-friendliness. Unlike wood and gas heaters, they don’t emit harmful gases. They also use less energy than gas heaters and operate quietly. Lastly, they are the easiest to operate because they only require you to press a switch to turn on.
Outdoor Kitchen
If fireplaces aren’t your thing, you could always opt for an outdoor kitchen. Besides providing the heat to keep you warm in chilly conditions, outdoor kitchens can also keep you busy preparing food for family and friends. The inviting aroma of roasting meat will ensure that your guests hang out with you in the outdoor space.
Improving the Efficiency of Outdoor Heaters
Most people often struggle with making their outside heaters more effective. The first step to countering this problem is reducing wind by installing as many windbreaks as possible. Wind is the biggest hindrance to outside heating because it can easily sway it in an undesired direction.
Additionally, you can also retain heat by installing gazebos and awnings. These materials essentially act as heat traps. You should, however, ensure that the material used for this purpose are fire-resistant.
Finally, the best way of staying warm outdoors is by using the good old-fashioned method of wearing more clothes. This also reduces the amount of heat required from the outdoor heating mechanisms.
